European Funds – First Source of Information or Where Do I Begin?

In the last decade, accessing European funds has become a highly sought-after tool for companies of all sizes looking to invest in growth and development. Often, our clients confess that in this process, the most challenging step was the first one. Where do I begin? What reliable source can I access to clarify the process?

First and foremost, familiarizing oneself with the entire procedure may require several hours of individual study or 1-2 sessions with a specialized consultant, but it is recommended to make an informed decision, as in this process, you, the Applicant, will be in the position of assuming several commitments, about which it is good to be informed from the beginning. As the first source of information we recommend accessing the website of the Ministry of Investments and European Projects (MIPE): https://mfe.gov.ro/. This source of documentation provides you with reliable and up-to-date information, an overview, a multitude of detailed information related to the process, and can also guide you towards the options available at this moment for your company’s profile.

The Ministry of Investments and European Projects (MIPE) uses an integrated IT platform with the European Commission’s IT system called MySMIS for managing communication, thus the exchange of information between you, the Applicant for the funds, and the issuing authority: it starts from the stage of defining the call and ends with the stage of project implementation and monitoring, encompassing modules that integrate intermediate stages of development and submission of the funding application, its evaluation, contracting, and acquisitions. It is good to know that this platform also integrates aspects related to data confidentiality and security.

Now that the role of this IT system is clarified, the next step will be registration in this space. You will find in the online space the version of the system from 2014, called MySmis2014 (found at the address https://2014.mysmis.ro/), but this is related to the already completed period 2014-2020. For the management of non-reimbursable financial assistance for the period 2021-2027, the updated version MySMIS2021/SMIS2021 will be used, which you can access at the address https://mysmis2021.gov.ro/. As it can already be inferred, but to avoid any confusion, you, as a potential Beneficiary today, will register in the MySMIS2021 system. To start the registration in this system, follow the steps in the user manual, which you can find at the address below: https://www.fonduri-ue.ro/images/files/mysmis/2023/Manual.de.utilizare.MySMIS2021-Proiecte-FO_01.pdf
